Pupils are immersed in the story of the famous fairy tale as they explore Maisonstotalement Castle, which has been completely transformed for the production of *Cinderella: The True Story*. From Year 1 to Year 2, they take part in a storytelling tour set against a backdrop of music, costumes and props from the show. In the workshop, they re-enact the ball scene and are introduced to careers in the performing arts. From Year 3 to Cycle 3, pupils compare the different adaptations of the fairy tale: from old illustrations to film and dance versions. They, in turn, take on the roles of the characters and perform a short play featuring a few lines from the show.

Key concepts:

  • Listen to and identify musical excerpts related to the story
  • Name and describe the characters, costumes and props from the show using simple vocabulary 
  • Re-enact and physically express a scene from the performance
  • Compare and analyse several versions of the Cinderella story
  • Interpret and embody a character by applying the principles of theatrical performance
  • Observe and describe the set design elements of the castle 
  • Place the story of the fairy tale in the context of its original era and trace its evolution through to contemporary adaptations
