What to see at Château de Maisons
A monument in the heart of the city, 30 minutes from Paris
Built in the 17th century by architect François Mansart, the Château de Maisons is a masterpiece of classical architecture, foreshadowing the famous châteaux of Vaux-le-Vicomte and Versailles.
The furnished interiors evoke the lives of the château's owners from the 17th to 19th centuries, and their respective tastes in the arts: neo-classical decor by Bélanger, Jacob and neo-Boulle furniture, paintings by Vignon, Monsiau, Bertin and Bidault.
The Château de Maisons enables students to understand :
- 17th-century architecture
- Key figures and dates in French history
- Lifestyles at the time of Louis XIV
- Literary and ornamental mythology
- The art of portraiture
- The French garden
Temporary exhibitions
The château presents one temporary exhibition a year in its basement. These multidisciplinary exhibitions offer a fresh look at the château and its history.
