Overview
Discover the elegance of a fashionable venue, from Louis XIV to Voltaire. Follow in the footsteps of Louis XIV, who visited the château three times, and whom Charles Perrault celebrated as ‘one of the most beautiful things we have in France’. François Mansart, the architect, created a masterpiece that embodies the transition from Renaissance to classical architecture. He innovated and surprised by playing with the interior volumes, which he either enlarged or shifted off-centre whilst maintaining perfect symmetry in the façade, and brought the architecture to life with sculpted decorations.
On fine days, the tour ends on the terrace; in winter, it ends in the games room, where visitors can enjoy a glass of champagne.
